|
As a caring pet parent, one of the most important decisions you can make is the
food you feed your cat. That’s because the brand you choose will serve as your cat’s
primary source of nutrition.
To help you make an informed decision, we evaluated
Purina ONE Natural Blends Chicken & Oat Meal Formula Dry Cat Food for Cats based
upon eight nutritional measures critical to making a superior food. In the following
comparison, we discovered that this brand of Purina ONE cat food does not contain
guaranteed amounts of probiotics, omega-3 fatty acids or vitamins A, C and E, nor
does it contain diverse proteins, species-specific animal fat or prebiotics Furthermore, this brand
includes corn gluten meal, which is regarded as an inexpensive source of protein.
If you are thinking about or are currently feeding your cat Purina ONE Natural Blends
Chicken & Oat Meal Formula Dry Cat Food, we urge you to consider trying Life’s Abundance
Premium Health Food for Kittens and Adult Cats, which is veterinarian-formulated

Diverse Proteins
Protein is the cornerstone
of any diet, but all proteins are not created equal. In fact, every protein source
contains a unique complement of amino acids, which are “building blocks” of the
body. Ideally, a cat food should contain at least three different protein sources
to provide a wide array of amino acids.
|
|
Animal Fat
Cats derive significant
nutrition from animal fats. While vegetable oil may sound healthier to consumers,
felines actually need the nutrients found in fats from animal sources. These specific
nutritional components are not found in vegetable fats. Additionally, there’s great
variation in the quality of animal fats, so be sure to verify that the source is
species-specific (like “chicken fat”, not “animal fat”).
|
|
Vitamins A, C & E
It’s hard to understate
the importance of antioxidants in promoting and maintaining good health. And some
of the most effective antioxidants are vitamins A, C and E. Ample evidence supports
that cat food should contain guaranteed amounts of vitamins A, C and E, to ensure
the adequate antioxidant intake necessary for wellness.
|
|
Omega-3 Fatty Acids
The benefits of dietary
fatty acids are well-known, as omega-3’s are some of the most extensively researched,
naturally occurring, nutritional ingredients in the world. Not only should cat foods
feature omega-3 fatty acids, they should include a guaranteed amount . And, for
optimal benefit, omega-3 fatty acids need to be scientifically balanced with omega-6
fatty acids. Not only will the perfect balance support healthy skin and shiny coats,
these fatty acids also help to maintain overall health.
|
|
Prebiotics
Cat food should contain
prebiotics, ingredients that promote the growth of “healthy” and “friendly” bacteria
in the gastrointestinal system. Prebiotics occur naturally in foods, just like vitamins
and minerals occur naturally in foods. However, researchers have found that only
oligofructose and inulin meet the scientific definition of prebiotics.
|
|
Probiotics
Often referred to as
“friendly bacteria” or “healthy microorganisms”, probiotics aid in the digestive
process. For these reasons and others, your cat’s food should feature guaranteed
amounts of probiotics such as L. acidophilus, L. casei, B. thermophilum and E. facecium.
|
|
Green Foods
Green foods contain an
abundance of highly active antioxidants, phytochemicals, enzymes, trace minerals
and numerous other nutrients, which work to support overall wellness. Be sure your
cat food features green foods, such as alfalfa sprouts.
|
|
No Glutens
We believe (cat or dog)
foods should not contain grains like corn, wheat or corn or wheat gluten, which
are generally used as inexpensive and inferior sources of protein. Additionally,
these grain-based ingredients are highly susceptible to toxic mold contamination.
We refuse to use these ingredients because there’s no excuse to risk the health
of your pet.

Do you really know what's in your cat's food?
|
|
Your cat eats the same food every day. The brand you feed is your cat's main source
of nutrition and vital to a long and healthy life. As a caring pet parent, it is
important to see through clever marketing ploys when choosing a food worthy of your
feline.
Although you may think all pet food manufacturers have your pet’s best interests
in mind, this is not always the case. Some manufacturers use ingredients that you
would never knowingly feed your cat. In fact, you may be shocked to learn what
some brands of cat food really contain.
Life’s Abundance Premium Health Food is veterinarian-formulated with safe and wholesome
ingredients, including a blend of vitamins and minerals, high-quality proteins,
whole grains, an antioxidant system, green foods, omega fatty acids, calcium and
phosophorus for healthy teeth and strong bones and dietary fiber to help maintain
a healthy digestive tract. Life’s Abundance contains no artificial flavors or colors.
And there’s no corn, corn gluten, wheat or wheat gluten.

BEYOND THE FIRST FIVE INGREDIENTS!
|
|
While the first five ingredients play a significant role in the nutritional make-up
of your cat’s food, every single ingredient is important. For nearly a decade, tens
of thousands of dogs and cats have been eating and thriving on Life’s Abundance
foods. We attribute this success to our painstaking attention to the detail. Each
and every ingredient in Life’s Abundance food is carefully chosen to work with all
the others to supply your companion animal with a highly nutritious and perfectly
balanced meal every day, every year over a lifetime.
HIGH-QUALITY PROTEINS – Proteins are the building blocks of all
living organisms. Protein is essential for all bodily functions including those
of the brain, heart, skin, skeleton and many others. Life’s Abundance cat food contains
at least 33% of high-quality protein. Look for identifiable animal proteins such
as "chicken meal" rather generic terms like "poultry meal," which can consist of
any fowl (turkey, chicken, geese, etc.).
CHICKEN MEAL - Some foods contain chicken meat or chicken
parts, which naturally hold a fair amount of water. We prefer to use chicken meal
because most of the water has been removed, which makes it a concentrated source
of protein. This means that there is a greater “protein content” in one pound of
chicken meal versus one pound of chicken meat. That’s why high-quality chicken meal
is a key ingredient in Life’s Abundance foods, as well as catfish and turkey meals.
WHOLE GRAINS - Whole grains are an excellent source of protein,
fiber, B vitamins, iron, zinc and other essential minerals. They also provide the
kind of carbohydrates that deliver sustained energy to your cat. We include the
natural goodness of Ground Brown Rice in Life’s Abundance Cat Food. We also include
Rice Flour, a carbohydrate that delivers quick energy to your cat.
VITAMINS AND MINERALS – The proprietary blend of vitamins and minerals
in Life’s Abundance foods was carefully selected to work in concert with all of
the other ingredients to enhance the overall nutritional value of the food.
ANTIOXIDANT SYSTEM – Among other nutrients, our antioxidant system
includes vitamins A, C and E.
CHICKEN FAT - We believe the primary fat source in cat food should
be animal based because these fats contain a profile of fatty acids that are easily
metabolized and generally more available to the body. Animal fats can vary in quality,
so look for a species-specific fat like “chicken fat” (versus “animal fat”) to be
certain of the kind of fat your cat is eating.
OMEGA-3 FATTY ACIDS FROM FISH OIL - Omega-3 fatty acids are
some of the most extensively researched natural nutritional ingredients in the world.
Among its many health benefits, the omega-3’s in Life’s Abundance help support healthy
skin and a shiny coat. We also included flaxseed meal for its outstanding nutritional
profile and its contribution to healthy skin and coat.
DIETARY FIBER - Fiber is required in every diet to maintain healthy
intestinal tract and good nutrient absorption. We use beet pulp, which is the fiber
from the gray sugar beet (sugar removed). Many studies have demonstrated that beet
pulp performs better than many other types of fiber.
“GREEN FOODS” – DOG GRASS - Dog grass contains many nutrients that
cats crave … that’s instinct at its best! When cats in the wild consumed their prey,
the intestinal tract contained grass and this grass provided necessary fiber and
phytonutrients.
“GREEN FOODS” - ALFALFA SPROUTS - Alfalfa sprouts contain an abundance
of highly active antioxidants, phytochemicals, enzymes, trace minerals and numerous
other living nutrients, which work to support good health and promote proper assimilation
of foods.
DIRECT-FED MICROBIALS - These ingredients are similar to
those found in supermarket yogurts. Direct-fed microbials help support healthy immune
and digestive systems.
